Simple Changes #76
Include public involvement in planning, monitoring, reporting and staff appraisal
Problem
The 2016-17 Community Life survey found that across the UK 51% of people would like to be more involved in decisions made by their local council.
Simple Change
It is vital to ensure that activities and mechanisms for involving people are planned, monitored and reported, so they can be challenged, developed or championed. You should also raise the issue of public involvement in staff appraisals to check whether staff feel adequately supported and able to carry out effective public involvement and to recognise where it has been done successfully.
