Problem

There are still many barriers within society that prevent people from certain groups achieving leadership roles. This is particularly true when it comes to local politics and representing their communities. Research shows that within Wales, it will take 82 years (compared to 48 in England) for gender parity to be achieved at local government level, and the 2015 ‘Is Wales Fairer?’ report noted that women, disabled people, young people, people from ethnic or religious minorities, and LGBT people remain under-represented at all levels of politics in Wales.
