Leadership Academy 2023-24 Cohort

Following a successful pilot programme in 2019 and 2021, the Future Generations Commissioner launched the third cohort of our Future Generations Leadership Academy. The programme launched in September 2023 and ended in March 2024.

We recruited a diverse group of 34 participants. Half of the participants were selected by their employers, who are the sponsors of the academy. The remaining participants were selected through our open all-Wales recruitment process.

The Academy is for young people aged 18-30 and the programme combines virtual and in person sessions, around 60-70 hours in total. The participants practice and improve their leadership skills, which we call ‘Superpowers’ in the programme. They also learn good practice around implementing the Well-being of Future Generations Act and its seven well-being goals, as well as the five ways of working required to achieve the goals.

Once participants graduate from the Academy, they are invited to join our Academy alumni network, where the Future Generations Commissioner’s team continues to facilitate leadership development opportunities and where alumni members can contribute in Wales and across the borders, sharing their knowledge, experience and vision. The Alumni continue to support each other through sharing good practice around implementing Wales’ well-being goals, and applying their knowledge and skills in their organisations and their community group.
