Statement: Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, Derek Walker, reiterates call for ceasefire in Gaza, as report out today warns a high risk of famine persists.
25/6/24
“The world is watching in horror as civilians in Gaza continue to pay the ultimate price of a deadly, eight-month military offensive.
Today’s shocking IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) report warns around 96 per cent of the population in the Gaza Strip (2.15m people) face high levels of acute food insecurity.
We need an immediate, permanent ceasefire and to secure the safe release of all hostages.
I urge those with the powers to do so, to commit to promoting peace and security for future generations.
Everyone in Israel and Palestine has the right to live in peace, now and in the future.”
