Simple Changes #45
Consider supporting communities and/or your organisation to become dementia-friendly
Problem
Dementia is a major public health issue in Wales, with approximately 42,000 people living with dementia. With people living longer and a greater proportion of people aged over 65, this is a key challenge for our communities in the future.
Simple Change
When our communities and organisations become dementia-friendly, we are helping to improve inclusion and quality of life for people with dementia in several ways, including building trust, strengthening networks and social capital that can work for everyone.

Working to become Dementia Friendly
In 2014 Brecon received official ‘Working to become Dementia Friendly’ recognition from Alzheimer’s Society. Brecon is the first community in Wales to achieve this status. This involves everyone having a greater awareness and understanding of dementia and doing very simple and practical things to accommodate it in everyday life.
