Simple Changes #48
Encourage community transport opportunities
Problem
Connecting local residents to opportunities is an important feature of a cohesive community. Community transport can be a lifeline for resident who do not own a car or where public transport is patchy. Often it is the only means of transport for many vulnerable and isolated people, who are likely to be older people or people with disabilities. Using everything from minibuses to mopeds, typical services include voluntary car schemes, community bus services, school transport, hospital transport, dial a ride, wheels to work and group hire services.
Simple Change
Public bodies need to understand the importance of community transport networks that operate and have conversations with local people to explore ways to help people to stay independent, participate in their communities and access vital public services and employment opportunities.
